Metal–metal (hydr)oxide heterostructures for electrocatalysis of hydrogen electrode reactions

چکیده
Metal/metal (hydr)oxide heterostructures have been proposed as an efficient means to enhance the kinetics of hydrogen electrode reactions (the evolution and oxidation reaction) on Pt, Ni, other electrodes in alkaline medium. However, reasons for faster are still not fully understood. By considering two materials, namely Pt widely studied media, this review brings light differences their pH-dependent behavior likely different genesis enhancement presence 3d transition metal oxides.

Electrode reactions of iron oxide-hydroxide colloids.
Small-sized FeO(OH) colloids stabilised by sugars, commercially available for the clinical treatment of iron deficiency, show two waves during cathodic polarographic sweeps, or two current maxima with stationary electrodes, in neutral to slightly alkaline aqueous medium. Similar signals are observed with Fe(III) in alkaline media, pH > 12, containing citrate in excess. Voltammetric and polarogr...
متن کاملInner-sphere heterogeneous electrode reactions. Electrocatalysis and photocatalysis: the challenge.
This paper offers a perspective on inner-sphere heterogeneous electron-transfer reactions and electrocatalysis as it is applied to electrochemical energy conversion systems. Fundamental concepts and an overview of past approaches to studies of these types of reactions are discussed. A method for the discovery of new electrocatalysts (for example, ones for the oxygen reduction reaction) and phot...
متن کاملElectrocatalysis for the Hydrogen Economy
This chapter deals with the concept of “hydrogen economy”, which was introduced by John O.M’ Bockris in 1972. We summarize the fundamental principles and the progress for the reactions relevant to the hydrogen economy, namely the hydrogen and oxygen evolution for water electrolyzers, and the hydrogen oxidation and oxygen reduction for fuel cells. The activity of each reaction can be correlated ...
متن کاملElectrocatalysis of hydrogen peroxide reactions on perovskite oxides: experiment versus kinetic modeling.
Hydrogen peroxide has been identified as a stable intermediate of the electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction on various electrodes including metal, metal oxide and carbon materials. In this article we study the hydrogen peroxide oxidation and reduction reactions in alkaline medium using a rotating disc electrode (RDE) method on oxides of the perovskite family (LaCoO3, LaMnO3 and La0.8Sr0.2Mn...
